The Cobbled Road..

A pair of high heels on cobbled streets always attract attention; it is almost like the clatter of the heels wakes up the sleepy road and all the sleepy folks living on it. The lazy eyed old man sitting by the side of the road lifts up his half open eyes from his lazy newspaper to look at the noisy passerby disapprovingly.
The undulating cobbled pathway adds an extra spring to the gait of the high heeled stranger. She does the hop skip and jump as she walks and the locals glance at her disapprovingly as they firmly plant their feet and walk steadily along.
The extra inches make her tower over the rest; it is almost like she unabashedly seeks attention. She must be a snob to walk all tall when the rest of the crowd unpretentiously walks in lowly pair of sneakers on cobbled road.

The old worn out cobbled streets in the hills are the most judgmental of all; they know the old regulars from the occasional visitors and can get nasty with the new folks. Yes she was new to this queer little town and she could sense that the meandering streets here didn't want to make friends with her- the high heeled snob on her high horse!

She tried to block out the nasty remarks of the street and steadied her pace for she had a rendezvous to keep. She still had a long winding distance to cover and she was afraid that she might not reach there in time- It is never a good idea to keep people waiting for long; they ultimately give up on you.

However the disapproval weighed down on her and gnawed at her will to walk further. Was it just the cobbled street that was being unreasonably prejudiced towards her or had she deserving earned the disapproval with her purple plume and high heels?
The chatter in her head kept getting louder, it was disapproval mixed with self-doubt and the fear of failing to make the appointed hour. Her pace slowed and she faltered, overwhelmed by a shortness of breath. Then in a split second she stopped completely turned around and ran as fast as she could in the opposite direction. There was no one to call her back now, she would not stop. Her fears had taken the better of her and she was again the fragile kid who knows nothing better than to run back home when a bully stops her midway on the cobbled road…

We Love

We fall in love when we are young,
when we are the doe-eyed believers
we believe in the magic of fireflies
we make wishes under the shooting stars.
we are just the hopeless believers
for us this love will last forever..

Some loves they see it all
they see the dark clouds,
that thunder in the ominous gale
they cry the warm tears
that the cold rain washes away
and shivering they walk home alone..

Some loves they are but a losing game
and the pursuit brings no reward..
but who is to know
what is in store?

Because,
We love when we our young
We love when we are believers
We love with hope
We love in despair..

Words of Wisdom

“Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.”- Winnie the Pooh.

I am sometimes surprised with how much I remember of the pooh. For all his innocent simplicity, he sometimes comes to my mind in the sagest ways! And sometimes I remember him simply for how he spoke certain words in his own laid back style. There was a play I was acting in school, one of my dialogue started as ‘Oh dear!’ and I tried to copy the pooh style, dee--arr, to rhyme with tig—eer. My English teacher thought that I was trying to bring in a British accent, I just played along, whatever makes people happy!

Going back to the sage pooh, I wanted to talk of random wisdom that comes your way from unexpected quarters. You feel truly humbled when someone goes out of his way to help you out. This was one such moment and I thanked him to go wait for my bus and he ran to catch his passing bus, then almost prophetically he said something exactly what my father always tells me.’ Keep faith in the power above, he’ll watch over!’  I stood in the interview suit and this somewhat old person just walked in and shaking hands with me wished me luck. Then as he closed the door, cheerfully quipped, ‘Whatever you do, have fun!’

The wisdom of these words is most profound because it wasn’t intended to be, they were just honest words and perhaps honesty is more powerful than all the wisdom of the world. Perhaps simplicity is more powerful than the pretentious charade of big thought leaders. Perhaps you have to hit the bottom most pit so as to feel uplifted once again.

From worldly wisdom to love, Pooh again is the sagest of all,
“If you live to be 100, I hope I live to be 100 minus 1 day, so I never have to live without you.” He knows his math well. “If there ever comes a day when we can't be together; keep me in your heart, I'll stay there forever”.  He’s no ordinary pooh to imagine 100 as the biggest number, he can think as far as infinity. His statements are just as eloquent as Pablo

Love Sonnet XVII by Pablo Neruda

I do not love you as if you were a salt rose, or topaz
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
So I love you because I know no other way
than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

“It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?"”-Winnie the Pooh, time I get my lunch :)

For You

I keep coming back to you
For there is a part of me
that lives with you...
For there is a part of me
which is you..

I smile and I cry when I think of you
I smile for the good times..
I cry for the good times..
But the smile I'll always owe it to you..

You have always walked me back home
Listened to my stories of the day
You could read the sparkle in my eyes
You could sing back the song, i had in my heart..

I can't see you everyday
I don't hear from you everyday
But I just believe somehow
we can always pick up the threads
from where we left..
and walk along new routes
and sing along new songs..
